The Vision Behind SCORCHED

The Pull of Dystopian Worlds

Growing up, dystopian and post-apocalyptic fiction was always something I was drawn to. The ability to experience another person’s vision of a possible future intrigued me, regardless of the format. But what truly fascinated me was how different each person’s vision could be.

Influences That Shaped the Wasteland

The tradition of dystopian fiction stretches back over centuries, from early works like Gulliver’s Travels and The Last Man to groundbreaking novels such as We, 1984, Fahrenheit 451, and Brave New World; modern games and films build upon this rich history in new and immersive ways.

Take the early 90s game Beneath a Steel Sky, which painted a version of Australia where citizens lived in walled cities under constant surveillance. Social status was determined by ranking. The privileged lived closer to ground level, while the less fortunate were confined to the highest reaches of the skyscrapers, surrounded by heavy industry and oppressive machinery. All overseen by a looming AI presence.

This was a world of steel walkways, groaning machinery, hissing pipes, and relentless hydraulics.

Then you have something like Mad Max: Fury Road, which drops us into a reality built on chaos and combustion. Explosions, arid landscapes, roaring engines, and a society fractured into tribalism. A visceral, kinetic future.

And of course, there is Warhammer 40K, possibly the most expansive and detailed dystopian universe ever built. It blends rot and decay with fire and brass, ancient machines of destruction with unimaginable scale. The aesthetic is overwhelming, yet completely coherent.

Why These Worlds Matter

The genre has remained relevant because it gives us space to imagine what comes next. Books and speeches can warn us about the future, but entering someone’s creative vision, seeing and hearing what that future feels like, is something deeper.

That kind of immersion leaves a lasting mark. And being able to contribute to that space is what the Wasteland Series is ultimately about.

From Inspiration to Execution

That desire to contribute evolved into the Wasteland Series, a collection of cinematic sound libraries, each designed as a self-contained environment reflecting a different version of collapse. The first volume, SCORCHED, captures the raw violence of a world torn apart. Explosive impacts, shattered machines, scorched landscapes, and fractured signals define the world you hear.
